[ELLE Voice] Protecting the natural environment is protecting future generations

Leave the safe zone

Previously, I studied Interior Design and worked for about 1 year in this field.

During my studies, I came into contact with many people working in this field.

Studying in school is one thing, but when you go to work, reality is sometimes far different from your imagination.

When I came to Africa, I saw with my own eyes the corpses of rhinos with half of their faces cut off for their horns, dying from loss of blood, baby rhinos running around looking for their mother’s warmth, even the forest guards could lose their lives.

Every day, those painful realities seep into me, making me work harder, giving me the strength to get out of my comfort zone to go to the wilderness despite countless difficulties.

In addition, we also face insects, diseases and the biggest danger comes from poachers.

Education is the core of conservation work

My job is mainly research and planning, directly caring for animals that are injured or have lost their mothers, helping them develop and integrate with the community before being released into the natural environment.

The conditions to become a volunteer are very strict, especially for Asians because many people take advantage of volunteer work to act as intermediaries to buy, sell and transport wild animals, ivory, and left rhino horn.

In recent years, the media has gradually promoted propaganda about wildlife conservation and there are encouraging signs.

Propaganda campaigns are just a part that rich people don’t really care about.

In my opinion, to improve this situation, it is necessary to have a stronger impact on human consciousness.

In the near future, I will team up with a few friends who are photographers and experts in organizing photo exhibitions and talk shows to share about our work experiences.

I hope that they – the heartless people who are harming wildlife – will one day understand that protecting the natural environment is also protecting the future of their children and grandchildren.
