(Dan Tri) – Procedures for the trial in the US Senate to consider removing President Donald Trump from office officially began on January 16 after the US House of Representatives transferred the article of impeachment and appointed 7 lawmakers to act.

US senators are sworn in to serve as jurors for the trial of President Donald Trump.

According to Reuters, on January 16, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts was sworn in to become the chairman, while 100 US senators were sworn in to become jurors in the impeachment trial of President Trump.

Mr. Roberts instructed senators to take an oath, pledging to conduct a fair trial.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff leads the team of seven House members appointed as impeachment managers who will serve as prosecutors in the trial.

Mr. Trump’s trial is expected to officially begin on January 21 and last about 2 weeks.

To remove Mr. Trump from office requires the support of 2/3 of the Senate.

The Democratic Party accelerated the impeachment process of President Trump after an intelligence official submitted a complaint denouncing Mr. Trump asking Ukrainian officials to investigate political rival Joe Biden.

Mr. Trump is the third president in US history to be tried for impeachment.

President Trump had his first reactions after the US Senate began proceedings for his trial.

This is not the first time Mr. Trump said the phone call he had with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky last July was a `perfect call.`

Speaking to reporters not long after being accused of asking Ukraine to investigate Mr. Biden and his son, Mr. Trump said: `We will consider publishing what we said in that perfect phone call.

Mr. Trump asserted that he did nothing wrong and called the House’s impeachment process a `deceptive process.`
